This week was very interesting. Monday fishing was great at Point Atkinson. Tuesday Point Atkinson slowed down. This made us work harder to find the fish. Seems that the Coho broke up into smaller schools throughout the harbour. Double and triple headers were not uncommon if you found a pocket of fish. Several Springs 10- 15 pounds were caught this week as well. Catches this week dropped to 2-3 per trip from 4-5 last week. Our best trip was Thursday afternoon, hooking 2 Springs and 2 Coho. Unfortunetly we lost a Spring and a Coho to a very hungry Seal. ………… “Shucks” ! ……….. The coming days should improve as more Coho are arriving daily, this will improve the numbers and catching. When cleaning our Coho, they were full of Crab larvae, seems to be their food of choice for now. This may explain why the Coho broke off into smaller schools. The harbour is full of Crabs. This will not be for much longer due to the recent opening of the Harbour Commercial Crabbing season. These guys will clean out the Crab stocks in no time.
